The Goals and Objectives
My Passion For 1 On 1 Art, Inc.
"My passion is to provide teenagers and young adults with Special Needs an opportunity to explore art through the development and founding of the art program, 1 On 1 Art, Inc."
The focus and objective of these classes is to provide teenagers and young adults with Special Needs an opportunity to explore art as a means of creative expression within a supportive and inclusive environment. We wish to provide these same opportunities to teens and young adults who have been identified as interested in learning more about the arts and expanding their expressive skills through use of various media.
Students will be taught and encouraged to:
1. Create simple drawings
2. Create simple 3-D forms
3. Confidently use various media
4. View art in galleries and museums through the eyes of an artist
5. Explore their inner-self
These tools will help the students with motor skills development, learn to focus upon completion of simple artistic tasks, and gain greater self-esteem. The reason behind all of this is because people with Special Needs lack exposure to artistic possibilities as a means of self-expression.
My personal goal is to provide the students with such, and extend community awareness of the artistic talent of young people with Special Needs in the Houston area.
I am and have been deeply and passionately committed to serving those in the community who are most deserving. People with Special Needs are such. I am personally familiar because I have a son with Down Syndrome. I have seen the power of art and the creative process make a distinct mark upon his development and his being. People with Special Needs are very misunderstood in our community (the world), and deserve to be allowed to contribute to the visual cultural aesthetic. It is my sincere desire and hope that God allow me to use the talent that he has given me to assist people with Special Needs in the Houston are to realize their potential for creativity, the joy of high self-esteem, and a sense of worth. Conversely, I hope to bring greater awareness of people with Special Needs to the Houston Community, through the visual arts and the contributions those affected by it can make to the world we all live in.
